Universal runs its own airport shuttle now, the SuperStar Shuttle, and the first thing most people want to know is whether it actually beats just calling an Uber. It mostly comes down to how many of you there are. The shuttle charges per person and an Uber charges per car, so the two cross somewhere around two adults and after that the car pulls ahead pretty fast.
The quick answer by group size
Here's a one-way trip from MCO to the Universal resort area, using SuperStar's published fares and our MCO–Universal Studios estimate for a normal, non-surge UberX.
| Your group | SuperStar | Uber (whole car) | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 adult | $23 | $42–$56 | Shuttle |
| 2 adults | $46 | $42–$56 | About even, Uber is faster |
| 2 adults, 2 kids (3–9) | $88 | $42–$56 | Uber |
| 4 adults with big bags | $92 | $67–$90 (UberXL) | Uber, barely |
So a solo traveler should just take the shuttle. Two adults pay about the same either way, and the Uber goes straight to your hotel without stopping at anyone else's first. Once you're a family of four the shuttle costs nearly double what one car does, and that gap gets wider on the round trip.
What SuperStar costs
These are the per-person fares Universal publishes, tax included, as of October 6, 2026. SuperStar fares and terms.
| Traveler | One way | Round trip |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | $23 | $39 |
| Child, ages 3–9 | $21 | $36 |
| Age 2 and under | Free | Free |
If you go with the shuttle, buy the round trip. Two one-way adult tickets come to $46 and the round trip is $39, so you save $7 a head. A family of four pays $150 round trip, though, and two normal UberX rides come to more like $84–$112 with no stops at other hotels.
It's a shared shuttle, so it can stop at other hotels before yours and you may wait a bit for it to leave. It serves the Universal resort hotels, including Helios Grand over at Epic Universe, and a few others, so check that your hotel is on the list when you book.
What an Uber costs
UberX from MCO to Universal usually runs about $42–$56 for the whole car. That's our estimate from a 16.5-mile, roughly 20-minute drive, not a live quote, and your hotel might be a little closer or farther than the park entrance. UberX seats four, but four adults with full-size suitcases usually need an XL, which we'd put around $67–$90.
Surge is the catch. When a bunch of flights land at once, or on a holiday week when the parks are packed, that UberX can climb toward $112. At that price the shuttle is cheaper for most groups of four or fewer, so look at the app before you commit, and if the number is ugly, the SuperStar desk is right there.
Is the Universal airport shuttle free?
No. People mix this up because Universal hotels do give you free transportation to the parks, but the airport run isn't part of that. SuperStar is a paid add-on unless your vacation package already includes it, so check your booking before you buy it twice. Universal hotel transportation details.
Where to find your ride at MCO
Rideshare pickup is on Level 2 at Terminals A and B, with extra pickup on Level 3 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. If you land at Terminal C it's Level 6. MCO rideshare pickup.
SuperStar is downstairs instead, on Level 1 (Ground Transportation) at both Terminal A and Terminal C, so grab your bags and head down rather than up. Your reservation will have the exact spot. MCO hotel shuttles.
Taking the bus to Epic Universe?
A lot of Epic Universe guides written around its launch tell you to take the LYNX bus. Check the current route first, because LYNX's April 26, 2026 service change dropped the Link 311 stop at Helios Grand and cut service to the Epic Universe bus loop. LYNX April 2026 changes.
If you're doing Disney too
Plenty of people split a trip between Universal and Disney, and the math there is similar. Our MCO to Disney guide walks through Mears Connect versus Uber, and if your hotel is on I-Drive the International Drive route has its own numbers.
And if you'd rather not gamble on surge with tired kids and car seats to sort out, a pre-booked private transfer gets you a fixed price before you fly and a driver waiting at arrivals. You can compare a fixed-price transfer from MCO against the shuttle and Uber numbers above.
